5 Ideas for Nightlife on Maui

You don’t need to go to Waikiki to have a fun night out in Hawai’i. Read on for the local scoop on Maui’s bar, party, and dancing scene.

  1. Hit up Wailuku’s up-and-coming bar scene

Wailuku Town is home to three of Maui’s best bars, each with their own unique vibe. Start the night at Parlay, an incredibly popular new bar where you can watch the game, eat a burger, and enjoy the large outdoor seating area. Right next door is Ester’s Fair Prospect, a hip tiki bar named the fourth best bar in America by Food & Wine. This spot serves some of Hawaii’s best artisanal tropical cocktails and has a quirky boho vibe. End the night at Wai Bar, which boasts a live DJ, a dance floor, and karaoke every Sunday night. Want to explore Hawaii’s local hardcore scene? The legendary record shop Request Music has punk shows most Saturdays.

2. Catch some live music in Pa’ia

Pa’ia, located on the North Shore, is a laid-back surf town by day and a bustling hub of music and fun by night. Pa’ia Bay Coffee & Bar is the town’s main venue, offering live music every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. There, you’ll find local alternative acts, reggae shows, and high energy DJ sets (see PBCB’s schedule here). Belle Surf Cafe is a more intimate space, and hosts DJ dance parties every Friday Night. Lima, a hip Peurvian bar, is Maui’s go-to spot for nightlife with a Latin flair, and is open until 1:30AM on weekends.

3. Go bar hopping in Kihei

Kihei has a handful of fun bars right in the same outdoor shopping center, making it Maui’s go-to spot for bar crawls. Located right across the beach, these bars are popular with locals and visitors alike. Hit up Haui’s Lifes a Beach for karaoke, South Shore Tiki Lounge for cocktails and good music, or Kahale's if you’re looking for a high energy dive bar.

5. Stay at a party hostel

Looking to party with a bunch of young international travelers? The Banana Bungalow Hostel has free drinks every Friday and Monday. Play a drinking game, or a game of pool, and enjoy music, dancing, and good vibes.
